Velvet is the name of a silk fabric in which loops or piles are formed on the surface of the fabric by the velvet. Also known as Zhangrong, it is named after it originated in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. It has been produced in large quantities in the Ming Dynasty and is one of the traditional Chinese fabrics. Velvet was the most prosperous in Ming and Qing dynasties. There are two kinds of floral velvet and plain velvet.

Floral velvet refers to cutting part of the velvet loops into fluff according to the pattern, so that it can be combined with the unbroken loops to form a pattern; while plain velvet has all velvet loops on its surface. Generally, silk is used as raw material or warp for velvet, cotton yarn is used as weft, and mulberry silk is used for pile loops. When weaving, weave into a pile rod every time we weave four wool threads, and when weaving to a certain length, use a cutter on the machine to cut along the iron wire to form plush. How the plush starts is designed according to the pattern. There are two types of patterns that make up the fabric: one is velvet satin, that is, Zhang satin; the other is velvet satin, that is, velvet. Mulberry silk is used as raw material for velvet, and mulberry silk can also be used as warp and cotton yarn as weft.

When weaving, weave four fleeces into a pile rod after weaving. When weaving to a certain length, cut along the iron wire with a cutter on the machine, and the iron wire is separated from the fabric to become plush. According to the design of the pattern, the plush can make the pattern clearly displayed on the satin surface and is shiny. The raw material of velvet is 22-30 cocoon grade-A raw silk, silk is also used as the warp, and cotton yarn is used as the "ground" interwoven with weft. Loops made of silk or rayon. The warp and weft are first degummed or semi-degummed, dyed, twisted and then woven.

There are two types of velvet: flower and plain. The surface of plain velvet is all pile loops, while floral velvet cuts part of the pile loops into fluff according to the pattern, and the fluff and pile loops alternate to form a pattern. Flower velvet is divided into two types: "bright flowers" and "dark flowers". , blue and brown. The fluff or pile loops of velvet stand tightly, the color is elegant, the fabric is firm and wear-resistant, not easy to fade, and has good resilience and elasticity.

Velvet has always been a traditional fall fabric, its luxurious temperament and rich texture create a magical fashion atmosphere. The heavier velvet fabrics are combined with contrasting delicate fabrics, such as silk and lace, to create an extraordinary allure.

The general pile height of velvet fabrics is between 2.5mm-3.0mm. If the wool is too low, it will not be easy to cut and the loss will be large; if the wool is too high, the shearing loss will be large, and the loops will not be easy to stand upright.

The velvet fabric is made of cotton as the main raw material.
